Breathe Relieve programs

Breathe Relieve offers individually tailored programs designed to retrain your breathing back to a healthy pattern for your body. Our programs incorporate functional breathing pattern training, which will improve your day to day breathing and overall health.

Breathe Relieve’s programs focus on light, low and slow breathing which targets your biochemistry and biomechanics and taps into your autonomic nervous system (ANS).

For high performance, our FOCUS PERFORM programs incorporate Oxygen Advantage techniques with Intermittent Hypercapnic/Hypoxic Training (IHHT) which uses powerful breath holding to simulate high altitude training. These programs are designed for athletes, executives and other high performers wanting to take their performance to the next level and improve recovery.

Breathe Relieve offers programs in person and online, in one on one, small group (maximum of five) or group sessions. Corporate and teams programs are also available.

Breathing too intensely during sleep, often through the mouth, can result in many sleep disorder symptoms including: snoring, sleep apnoea, disrupted sleep, night time asthma, needing to go to the bathroom, dry mouth, waking tired, waking breathless and blocked nose.

Breathe Relieve’s simple exercises, switching you from mouth breathing to breathing through the nose can reduce, and in most cases eliminate, these symptoms.

Mouth breathing and over breathing contribute to cooling and drying of the airways, resulting in symptoms such as coughing, wheezing and breathlessness.

Breathe Relieve’s exercises switch from mouth breathing to nasal breathing to bring the breathing volume towards normal. This results in a significant reduction of asthma symptoms and improved quality of life and in some cases a reduction in medications. By reducing the volume of breathing we can reduce the reaction to the triggers for allergies.

Hypertension is a chronic condition in which the blood pressure is unusually high and if left untreated may have negative health consequences.

Poor breathing patterns may contribute to high blood pressure.

Breathe Relieve’s simple exercises of slow nasal breathing can assist in regulating both high or low blood pressure.

Insomnia is a sleep disorder characterised by difficulty in sleeping, going to sleep or staying asleep. Common features of insomnia include daytime sleepiness, irritability, and poor concentration. All of which may lead to complete exhaustion. Changing your breathing can change the way you feel. This is very important for people with PTSD, because having the ability to control your breathing and mind when triggers occur gives you back control over the situation.

Breathe Relieve’s simple exercises slow the breathing rate and activate the parasympathetic nervous system, giving the body time to rest and restore.

The ability of the human body to be able to handle the stressors of life well is a marker of resilience.

Breathe Relieve’s simple exercises improve Heart Rate Variability (HRV) and enable the body to switch on and off the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous systems. This gives you the ability to down regulate (relax and move your body out of its stress response) and up regulate (rapidly move to an alert state of focus and readiness), creating greater resilience.

Being in pain can cause over breathing and dysfunctional breathing can aggravate pain. This cycle can lead to fatigue, anxiety, panic attacks and difficulty carrying out daily activities.

Breathe Relieve’s functional breathing exercises are an effective way to increase oxygen delivery to areas of pain, and to control sensitivity to pain. Our programs increase your body’s tolerance of carbon dioxide (CO2) and enhance oxygen delivery, which will greatly assist injury rehabilitation.

Over breathing, including breathing too fast or only breathing into the upper chest, triggers the body’s “fight or flight” response. Equally, being in “fight or flight” mode feeds back into over breathing, creating a loop effect and escalating symptoms.

The nervous system can become agitated by chronic over breathing and begin to accept it as the normal pattern. This is very widespread in society, found amongst students, people with carer responsibilities, first responders, school teachers, frontline service workers, and healthcare workers.

Breathe Relieve’s simple exercises slow the breathing pattern and switch to nasal breathing, which will enable the parasympathetic nervous system to be activated and bring a calming effect to the body. This can reduce feelings of anxiety and stress, prevent panic attacks and ease feelings of depression.

Painful PMS symptoms can cause over breathing, and dysfunctional breathing can aggravate pain, creating a loop effect and escalating symptoms. Low carbon dioxide (CO2) levels in your blood, caused by over breathing, lead to heightened pain perception. They also lead to constriction of smooth muscles like those in the uterus, which can contribute to pain experienced as menstrual cramps. Restoring nasal breathing to light and slow will relax smooth muscle and relieve symptoms.

Breathe Relieve’s simple exercises can activate your parasympathetic nervous system via slow and low diaphragmatic breathing. This can support you throughout your monthly hormonal cycle, as well as reduce the frequency and severity of menopause symptoms such as hot flashes, irritability and poor concentration. Paced breathing can reduce the stress response, relaxing your body and mind.

Poor breathing habits in children can lead to a lifetime of health issues. Mouth breathing and over breathing can contribute to learning difficulties, sleep disorders, crooked teeth, smaller airways, ADHD, anxiety, tiredness, blocked nose, and childhood asthma.

Breathe Relieve’s simple, fun exercises restore children from mouth breathing to nasal breathing, and create good breathing habits, to improve overall health and happiness.

Client testimonial

“I did a course with Lisa at Breathe Relieve to help with issues such as waking during the night, snoring and feeling tired in the mornings.  After the course I’ve noticed an improvement in my sleeping habits and I’m feeling more energised in the mornings.  It’s amazing how soon your body can adapt to change and become less stressed. I found Lisa easy to talk to and her explanation of the process and benefits simple to understand.  I would highly recommend Lisa as a practitioner.”
